This is not very clear and it is not explained properly in the 1st patch where you document this driver. It doesn't talk about how older UAPI based application will still work without any change or recompilation. I prefer the same old binary to work w/ the new DRM based interface without any changes (I don't know how that will be possible) OR if recompilation + linking is needed then you need to provide the wrapper library.
I'll add more details for this based on the discussion for compat driver.
