Hi Greg,
could you please apply commit dc2db1dc5fb9ab3a43b305c2720fee5278dbee2a
("scsi: smartpqi: allow static build") to 4.15-table, 4.14-stable and
4.9-stable?
(The smartpqi driver did not exist 4.4-stable, so there's no need to
go back further.)
Thanks,
Steffen

Ah, right. I missed that when I wrote the new changelog text for this old
patch of mine. It also means I should rebase the patch so it applies
on mainline, as I still want PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES to be disabled
in COMPILE_TEST kernels for the build speed aspect.
Greg, could you add the 68e76e034b6b1 commit to 4.14-stable and
4.15-stable in the meantime?
Arnd
This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled
tracing: Prevent PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES when FORTIFY_SOURCE=y
to the 4.14-stable tree which can be found at:
http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=sum…

From: Randy Dunlap <rdunlap(a)infradead.org>
commit 68e76e034b6b1c1ce2eece1ab8ae4008e14be470 upstream.
I regularly get 50 MB - 60 MB files during kernel randconfig builds.
These large files mostly contain (many repeats of; e.g., 124,594):
In file included from ../include/linux/string.h:6:0,
from ../include/linux/uuid.h:20,
from ../include/linux/mod_devicetable.h:13,
from ../scripts/mod/devicetable-offsets.c:3:
../include/linux/compiler.h:64:4: warning: '______f' is static but declared in inline function 'strcpy' which is not static [enabled by default]
______f = { \
^
../include/linux/compiler.h:56:23: note: in expansion of macro '__trace_if'
^
../include/linux/string.h:425:2: note: in expansion of macro 'if'
if (p_size == (size_t)-1 && q_size == (size_t)-1)
^
This only happens when CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE=y and
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES=y, so prevent PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES if
FORTIFY_SOURCE=y.
