I've been looking at ext4 history the past couple of days seeing if the patches that you attempted to apply from 4.17-rc1 were relevant and I noticed a couple from previous 4.x versions that seem like they should be applied here, as they are clean picks and tagged for stable:

I've been running them for the day and not had any issues (though I didn't have any before). If there are any objections, let me know!

Neither of them apply to the 4.4.y tree, can you send me backports that do work?
