System boots to desktop.

The 4.18 stable branch is no longer maintained.

I suspect this is the same as https://bugs.debian.org/914495 and https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108850, which is fixed in 4.19 (currently in unstable).
