[PATCH v8 0/5] mm/memfd: introduce MFD_NOEXEC_SEAL and MFD_EXEC

From: Jeff Xu <jeffxu(a)google.com> Since Linux introduced the memfd feature, memfd have always had their execute bit set, and the memfd_create() syscall doesn't allow setting it differently. However, in a secure by default system, such as ChromeOS, (where all executables should come from the rootfs, which is protected by Verified boot), this executable nature of memfd opens a door for NoExec bypass and enables “confused deputy attack”. E.g, in VRP bug [1]: cros_vm process created a memfd to share the content with an external process, however the memfd is overwritten and used for executing arbitrary code and root escalation. [2] lists more VRP in this kind. On the other hand, executable memfd has its legit use, runc uses memfd’s seal and executable feature to copy the contents of the binary then execute them, for such system, we need a solution to differentiate runc's use of executable memfds and an attacker's [3]. To address those above, this set of patches add following: 1> Let memfd_create() set X bit at creation time. 2> Let memfd to be sealed for modifying X bit. 3> A new pid namespace sysctl: vm.memfd_noexec to control the behavior of X bit.For example, if a container has vm.memfd_noexec=2, then memfd_create() without MFD_NOEXEC_SEAL will be rejected. 4> A new security hook in memfd_create(). [PATCH] kselftest/alsa: Increase kselftest timeout

The default timeout for kselftests is 45 seconds, but pcm-test can take longer than that to run depending on the number of PCMs present on a device. As a data point, running pcm-test on mt8192-asurada-spherion takes about 1m15s. [PATCH v7 00/14] KVM: mm: fd-based approach for supporting KVM guest private memory

This is the v7 of this series which tries to implement the fd-based KVM guest private memory. The patches are based on latest kvm/queue branch commit: b9b71f43683a (kvm/queue) KVM: x86/mmu: Buffer nested MMU split_desc_cache only by default capacity Introduction ------------ In general this patch series introduce fd-based memslot which provides guest memory through memory file descriptor fd[offset,size] instead of hva/size. The fd can be created from a supported memory filesystem like tmpfs/hugetlbfs etc. which we refer as memory backing store. KVM and the the memory backing store exchange callbacks when such memslot gets created. At runtime KVM will call into callbacks provided by the backing store to get the pfn with the fd+offset. Memory backing store will also call into KVM callbacks when userspace punch hole on the fd to notify KVM to unmap secondary MMU page table entries. Comparing to existing hva-based memslot, this new type of memslot allows guest memory unmapped from host userspace like QEMU and even the kernel itself, therefore reduce attack surface and prevent bugs. Based on this fd-based memslot, we can build guest private memory that is going to be used in confidential computing environments such as Intel TDX and AMD SEV. When supported, the memory backing store can provide more enforcement on the fd and KVM can use a single memslot to hold both the private and shared part of the guest memory. mm extension --------------------- Introduces new MFD_INACCESSIBLE flag for memfd_create(), the file created with these flags cannot read(), write() or mmap() etc via normal MMU operations. The file content can only be used with the newly introduced memfile_notifier extension. The memfile_notifier extension provides two sets of callbacks for KVM to interact with the memory backing store: - memfile_notifier_ops: callbacks for memory backing store to notify KVM when memory gets invalidated. - backing store callbacks: callbacks for KVM to call into memory backing store to request memory pages for guest private memory. The memfile_notifier extension also provides APIs for memory backing store to register/unregister itself and to trigger the notifier when the bookmarked memory gets invalidated. The patchset also introduces a new memfd seal F_SEAL_AUTO_ALLOCATE to prevent double allocation caused by unintentional guest when we only have a single side of the shared/private memfds effective. memslot extension ----------------- Add the private fd and the fd offset to existing 'shared' memslot so that both private/shared guest memory can live in one single memslot. A page in the memslot is either private or shared. Whether a guest page is private or shared is maintained through reusing existing SEV ioctls KVM_MEMORY_ENCRYPT_{UN,}REG_REGION. Test ---- To test the new functionalities of this patch TDX patchset is needed. Since TDX patchset has not been merged so I did two kinds of test: - Regresion test on kvm/queue (this patchset) Most new code are not covered. [PATCH v2] selftests/kselftest/runner/run_one(): Allow running non-executable files

However, it's easy to mistakenly missing the permission, as some common tools like 'diff' don't support the permission change well[1]. Compared to that, making mistakes in the test program's path would only rare, as those are explicitly listed in 'TEST_PROGS'. Therefore, it might make more sense to resolve the situation on our own and run the program. For the reason, this commit makes the test program runner function to still print the warning message but try parsing the interpreter of the program and explicitly run it with the interpreter, in the case. [PATCH v8 0/6] Some improvements of resctrl selftest

Hello, The aim of this patch series is to improve the resctrl selftest. Without these fixes, some unnecessary processing will be executed and test results will be confusing. There is no behavior change in test themselves. [patch 1] Make write_schemata() run to set up shemata with 100% allocation on first run in MBM test. [patch 2] The MBA test result message is always output as "ok", make output message to be "not ok" if MBA check result is failed. [patch 3] When a child process is created by fork(), the buffer of the parent process is also copied. Flush the buffer before executing fork(). [patch 4] An error occurs whether in parents process or child process, the parents process always kills child process and runs umount_resctrlfs(), and the child process always waits to be killed by the parent process. [patch 5] If a signal received, to cleanup properly before exiting the parent process, commonize the signal handler registered for CMT/MBM/MBA tests and reuse it in CAT, also unregister the signal handler at the end of each test. [patch 6] Before exiting each test CMT/CAT/MBM/MBA, clear test result files function cat/cmt/mbm/mba_test_cleanup() are called twice. Delete once. This patch series is based on Linux v6.2-rc7. [PATCH 00/11] selftests: hid: import the tests from hid-tools

I have been running hid-tools for a while, but it was in its own separate repository for multiple reasons. And the past few weeks I finally managed to make the kernel tests in that repo in a state where we can merge them in the kernel tree directly: - the tests run in ~2 to 3 minutes - the tests are way more reliable than previously - the tests are mostly self-contained now (to the exception of the Sony ones) To be able to run the tests we need to use the latest release of hid-tools, as this project still keeps the HID parsing logic and is capable of generating the HID events. The series also ensures we can run the tests with vmtest.sh, allowing for a quick development and test in the tree itself. This should allow us to require tests to be added to a series when we see fit and keep them alive properly instead of having to deal with 2 repositories. In Cc are all of the people who participated in the elaboration of those tests, so please send back a signed-off-by for each commit you are part of. This series applies on top of the for-6.3/hid-bpf branch, which is the one that added the tools/testing/selftests/hid directory. Given that this is unlikely this series will make the cut for 6.3, we might just consider this series to be based on top of the future 6.3-rc1.
