Rough notes from Kernel Consolidation meeting

Hello! Please see below for my rough notes from the kernel consolidation, and please reply to the group with any errors or omissions. Discussion of implementation strategy -- full virtualization vs. paravirtualization. TrustZone. o Requirements schedule o Requirements discussion, mostly in TSC. o Discussion and refinement at Orlando. o Blueprint generation in the 2-3 weeks following Orlando. o Round table: o Arnd Bergmann: BKL work mostly submitted. Looking into I/O spaces and SoCs -- address-space annotation. o Dave Martin: One perftools patch to be pushed to mainline. John Rigby working on build of perftools. o Jason Hui: iMX51 work on device trees. Need assignment. Reviewed BSP review, need to send results to Loïc et al. o Jeremy Kerr: Device tree response to review comments, API. Adding more platforms into device tree -- use device-tree properties. o John Stultz: OMAP emulation environment work -- preparation for clock consolidation. Networking is not working. First revision of POSIX clock RTC patch, working second revision. o Mounir Bsaibes: New presentation for blueprints, almost done. Working on howto for writing specifications. Tracking mechanism. o Nat Waddell: Several Versatile Express bugs fixed last week, especially frame-buffer tearing problem. Lorenzo's kernel built and boots, but cannot get frame-buffer display working. Device-tree problem? [Follow up with Lorenzo.] o Nicolas Pitre: Merge bug fixes for ARM, including some GDB vector-page-backtrace problems (related to atomic operations). Pulled upstream patches from mainline. SECCOMP support -- syscall restrictions for untrusted code. Q: /dev/mem protection from Kees Cook? A: Might. o Paul McKenney: TSC meeting. RCU bugs, priority boosting. o Steve Sakoman: Expansion-board detection in uboot for OMAP3, save environments for eMMC for boards lacking flash memory, bring Panda support to latest 8-layer boards just appearing (about 12 patches required). Expect to submit upstream later this week. o Dave Martin on holiday Thu through next week.

Error (no boot device found) running qemu image

Hi there, I've followed the instructions on <https://wiki.linaro.org/Source/ImageInstallation> to generate a qemu image using linaro-media-create and although the image was generated fine, I got the following error when trying to run it: qemu: hardware error: no boot device found CPU #0: R00=00000000 R01=00000000 R02=00000000 R03=00000000 R04=00000000 R05=00000000 R06=00000000 R07=00000000 R08=00000000 R09=00000000 R10=00000000 R11=00000000 R12=00000000 R13=00000000 R14=00000000 R15=400140a4 PSR=400001d3 -Z-- A svc32 Aborted That was using today's daily headless tarball, btw. Vexpress LTP questions

Hi, There are many failures in the LTP tests related to message queues. This is because the CONFIG_POSIX_MQUEUE option is disabled in the kernel. When I enable this option all the ltp mqueue tests pass. Does anyone know why we would want this option to be disabled? It doesn't seem to add much to the size of kernel (<5K). I'm looking for the daily builds to assure no regression and to pick up the changes I made for the IGEPv2 networking (bug 618734 [omap/igep] No eth0 with Linaro kernel). >From the looks of the bug, these changes should be included in the next daily build 2) finishing up bug 619206 ( GEP task - libertas-firmware not installed<https://bugs.launchpad.net/linaro-seeds/+bug/619206>) and looking at bug 622429 ( ethernet device appears as usb0 and not eth0 on beagle XM boards<https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux-linaro/+bug/622429>). 3) my bug 633338 (no LCD support on IGEPv2 board) was found to be a duplicate of bug 607250 (omapdss: VDDA_DAC regulator on IGEPv2) which has a corresponding patch they are pulling in. 4) next step is to look at the powervr driver changes in the "ARM Graphics Stack on X" Blueprint. -- Loïc Minier

Toolchain WG helper programs

OpenOCD

Hi all, I was recently hired by CodeSourcery and have been assigned to Linaro for the purpose of improving OpenOCD. Specifically, I will be adding new support for Cortex-A9 SMP, though I may also make a few improvements to its handling of Cortex-A8 in the process. If you have experience using OpenOCD in these contexts, let me know if you have any specific requests for features or fixes, and I will try to fold them into my plans. After this cross-posted introduction, I believe that most of my correspondence will appear on the Toolchain mailing list, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knows that they can find me there. Current state of PM tools

This mail is to give an update on the current state of PowerTOP and PowerDebug tools. The patch to make PowerTOP work on ARM boards too (by removing the hardcoded values for these states) has been included in upstream. This patch has also made it into the Maverick PowerTOP package (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+source/powertop/1.13-1ubuntu1). Request you to test this package on whatever hardware you may have (x86/arm) and report any problems that you may encounter. PowerDebug is a new tool that we are working on which will provide some more Power Management related information, like - Regulator, Sensor and clock domain information. The source code can be downloaded from my git tree (git://git.linaro.org/people/amitarora/powerdebug.git) OR from my PPA (ppa:amitarora/pm-utils).
